Broek in Waterland

De bewaard gebleven houten huizen laten zien dat het dorp grote welvaart heeft gekend.

De bebouwing, veelal uit de zeventiende en achttiende eeuw, concentreert zich rond het Havenrak. De panden worden gekenmerkt door houtsnijwerken en de bijzondere grotendeels grijze tinten waarin zij zijn geschilderd. Het is ook een wonder dat zoveel ruimte en rust, pal naast de levendige Zaanstreek,  onder de rook van Amsterdam en naast de meest bezochte nationale toeristische bezienswaardigheden te vinden is.

Het toeristisch bekendste gezicht van Holland vinden we aan de rand van Waterland waar het IJsselmeer, Gouwzee heet.

Als parels aan een snoer liggen hier Edam, Volendam en Monnickendam en tenslotte aan de andere kant van de Gouwzee het voormalige eiland Marken.

En het immer bruisende Amsterdam is in 10 minuten bereikbaar met de bus die maar liefst 5 maal per uur vertrekt.

Uw auto kunt u rustig in het dorp laten staan.

Dat scheelt problemen, frustraties en flink wat parkeerkosten!

Broek in Waterland

The buildings, mostly dating from the 17th and 18th century, concentrate around the Havenrak. Perceptive hikers will see that some houses have a square roof at the back. These “squares” mostly date from approximately 1650 and probably served as a cowshed until the early 18th century.

It is also a miracle that there is so much space and quietness to be found right next to the lively Zaan region, a stone’s throw from Amsterdam and directly beside the most popular national tourist sights.

Holland’s best known features for tourists are found on the edge of Waterland where the Ijsselmeer is called Gouwzee. Like pearls on a necklace from north to south there is Edam, Volendam and Monnickendam and finally on the other side of the Gouwzee, Marken, the former island.

Amsterdam is only 10 minutes by bus. To save you the frustration of finding parking space and additional costs, it is better to leave your car in the village.

Five busses per hour leave the village for the vivacious, sparkling capital.
